Neck Pain
There are many reasons for neck pain. Many of the most common personal injury problems that cause pains in the neck are caused by a car accident injury. The sudden deceleration of your car during an accident, combined with your body wanting to move with the car while being restrained by the seat belt, may cause any number of injuries to the neck.
ALERT: You should always wear your seatbelt while driving or riding in a car, as the injuries you receive can be much worse without one.
When your car stops suddenly, and you are wearing a seat belt, your head can whip forward and then backward, extending farther than it normally does. This extension and the subsequent injury are known as whiplash. This can result in severe soft tissue damage and even cervical vertebrae becoming misaligned.
Our chiropractic physicians may employ a number of different techniques to help relieve the pain of whiplash, including massage therapy to relieve tense muscles and increase the range of movement, and decompression, using an inclined table to allow the vertebrae to gently elongate and move back to their correct position.
When spinal vertebrae become misaligned, whether through a car accident injury or other cause, they may trap a nerve between the edges of the bone. This is known as a pinched nerve. A spinal adjustment may begin the healing process for a pinched nerve by allowing the vertebrae to return to their normal position. Also, massage therapy may ease tightened muscles around the nerve.
